Susie Ostermeyer, Director

Susie has been a part of 4 Corners Community Nursery since 1995. She has been a parent, substitute, assistant teacher, lead teacher and since 2005, Director.

Susie graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Textile Marketing and is certified through Montgomery Child Care Association for early childhood education. Her career began in the textile industry and after her children were born made a career change to work with children.

"There is nothing more rewarding than watching and guiding children grow. Creating lasting relationships with children and their families and 4CCN staff creates an environment like no other".

Susie lives in Silver Spring with her husband and two children.

Kathy Dunmire
2 year olds
Room 25

Kathleen (Kathy) Dunmire has been teaching our two year olds at 4CCN since February 2004. Prior to that she worked for over ten years at St. Luke’s Christian Day School before returning to The University of Maryland to obtain a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education. After teaching second grade and Kindergarten for Montgomery County Public Schools, she began teaching part-time with 4CCN in order to spend more time with her two young grandsons.

When not working with parents and children, she enjoys her family, cooking, gardening and antique/flea markets. She knits obsessively. She’s been married for more than 30 years and has three adult children: one daughter and two sons.

Denise Gill
2 year olds
MWF Room 25

Mrs. Gill has worked at Four Corners Community Nursery for six years. Originally a substitute teacher; Mrs. Gill has been an assistant for five years. She works in the two year old classroom. Previously, Mrs. Gill has worked as classroom volunteer at Stonegate Elementary school and as administrative assistant / child care aid at the Olney Childrens Center. She has a degree in Dental Hygiene and worked in the dental field for eleven years. Her recent training includes medication administration, children with special needs and preschool science. Mrs. Gill lives in Silver Spring with her husband and their two school age children. In her free time she enjoys reading and working in her flower beds.

Catherine Jeffries
3 year olds
Room 26

Catherine Jeffries is a MWF three year old teacher. From volunteering in the after school program at her child's elementary school to running summer camps with friends during high school summer vacations, she has always loved working with young children. After graduating from American University with a BA in Literature and a focus in Education, she began teaching preschool. In 2001 she received a Masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Emerson College, and in 2002, she moved back to Maryland and began working at The River School in Washington DC, where she taught preschool and provided speech and language therapy for children with hearing loss. She joined the staff at 4CCN in 2010 after her daughter finished her final year at the school and began kindergarten. She believes that children learn best through play and that her job as a teacher is to provide the structure and support to help each child build early learning and social skills while developing a love of learning.

Kathleen Ficco
3 Year olds

Mrs. Ficco is an eleventh year veteran of Four Corners Community Nursery School. The first five years she was an assistant in the two-year-old program. The last six years she has worked in the three-year-old program and co-taught in 4CCN's optional science program for four-year-old students. Prior to coming to 4CCN she was an active volunteer in her daughters' elementary school classrooms and a co-operative parent during her daughters preschool years. Before her daughters, Ms. Ficco worked as an RN after receiving her degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing.

Mrs. Ficco lives in Silver Spring with her husband and is the mother of two daughters. In her free time she enjoys baking, step aerobics, Zumba classes as well as spending time with her family.

Nanci Schaefer
3 year olds
Room 14

Mrs Schaefer has been teaching at 4CCN since 1984. She started as a substitute teaching assistant and quickly became a permanent member of the staff. For the last twenty some years she has been a lead teacher for one of our 3 year old classes, as well as teaching 4CCN's after school science program. Mrs. Schaefer completed the 64 Hour course in Early Childhood Education from Green Acres School Adult Education Program and has completed coursework in Early Childhood Education from Montgomery College.

During the summer she works as the Aquatics Director at Forest Knolls Pool, where she has taught swimming lessons for 23 years. Her new personal organizing business, Making Space, has kept her busy as it has grown.

Mrs Schaefer lives in Silver Spring with her husband; has 3 grown sons and 5 grandchildren. She enjoys swimming, yoga, gardening and sewing.

Pamela Robbins
3 Year olds
MWF - Room 14

Ms. Robbins has been a staff member since 2004. She assists in both the 2-day, 2 year old and 3-day, 3 year old programs. She has also worked as a substitute at 4CCN while her 3 children (now ages 19, 17 and 14) attended the same preschool. Ms.Robbins has a Bachelor of Science from University of Maryland. Her recent training is in partnering with parents and identifying special needs in early development.

Ms. Robbins was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her last two children currently attend competing high schools (Northwood and Montgomery Blair). She loves this area because of the outstanding schools, parks and recreation centers and many educational opportunities that are available to all.

Ellen Perman
4 year olds
Room 19

Mrs. Perman has been teaching at 4CCN for 22 years. She is the lead teacher in the 5 day, 4 year old program. Her BA degree in History of Art and Studio Art is from Randolph Macon Woman’s College. Her greatest joy is encouraging her students to experiment and investigate their great big wonderful world through Art. The play based curriculum provides a fun, safe environment to learn language skills, letter and number recognition, beginning handwriting skills and social skills.

Her 2 children are 4CCN graduates. Mrs. Perman lives in her childhood home in Bethesda. Her pastimes are trying to organize her house, guiding her son through his last( ?) year of college and keeping tabs on her daughter in London. For relaxation she reads, draws and enjoys her dog, Zelda and Siamese cat, Elijah (MHS adoptees).

Helen Lyon
4 year olds
Room 19

Helen Lyon has worked at 4 Corners Community Nursery since 1998. She is an assistant teacher for 4-5 year olds. She first became involved with 4CCN when her own children attended preschool. She often volunteered in their classes and substituted for their teachers. Through her initial experiences, she found that she loved working with children, reading to them and interacting with them. When offered a position she jumped at the opportunity and decided to pursue it as a career. She has just recently completed the 90 hour Child Care Certification class as well as the Maryland Communication Certificate program. She, also, has over 120 hours of continuing education and plans to continue at 4CCN as long as she is contributing to an integral part of the children's growth, development and making a difference, serving as an inspiration while providing them with the basics needed to move ahead.

Kathy Sampson
4 year olds
Room 12

Mrs. Sampson has worked as a lead teacher in 4CCN's 4-yr. old program since 2006. She has 13 years of classroom experience at 4CCN. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland and has completed the 90 hour course in Early Childhood Development and Curriculum. She has a special interest in speech and language development in young children.

Mrs. Sampson lives in Kensington and is the mother of three children. When not working, she enjoys tennis, golf and playing with her granddaughter

Ashley Campbell
4 Year olds
Room 12

Ashley has worked at 4 Corners Community Nursery since 2007. Prior to Four Corners, Ashley worked at The Langley School in McLean, Va where she worked in the 3 year old program and the Kindergarten. Ashley received her Masters of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Ashley is the Mother of two school aged girls.

 

Jeannie Sindall
4 year olds
Room 15

Jeanine Sindall has worked at 4CCN since 1998. She is an assistant teacher in the MWF four year old class. Previous to 4CCN, she taught art (K-8) at St. Bernadette for 6 years. She also provided home day care. Jeanine received a Bachelor’s degree in Hearing & Speech Sciences from the University of Maryland. She lives in Silver Spring and is the mother of three children.

 

Lisa Hanagan
4 year olds
Room 15

Mrs. Hanagan began her career in 1994. She started as an assistant teacher and in 1998 as a lead teacher. She works on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays with the four year olds. She is also a teacher with the after school science program. Mrs. Hanagan attended Montgomery College and the University of Maryland. She has completed the 90 hour course in Early Childhood Development and continues her education by taking additional credits each year.

Mrs. Hanagan grew up in Silver Spring area and lives with her husband and two children. Her two children attended 4CCN. When she is not working, she enjoys tennis, gardening and other outdoor activities.

Office Manager - Rachel Parkhurst

Rachel graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geography from Clark University. Prior to being a Stay-At-Home Mom she worked at a CPA firm in Washington DC as Head Bookkeeper/Client Services.

Rachel has two children that attend 4CCN. She lives with her family in Silver Spring.
